Anantapuramu: The district is still under the spell of the Samaikyandhra movement even after 42 days and it is showing no signs of abatement. People belonging to all sections of the society, including children have come on to the streets and were voluntarily participating in the agitations.

Members of the Samaikyandhra-Joint Action Committee (JAC) including teachers and employees sat on a dharna near the Mandal Revenue Office here on Sunday and they registered their protest by walking on their knees. Lecturers of Government and Aided Junior Colleges took out a huge rally in the city.

Later, they formed a human chain at the Clock Tower and raised slogans in favour of Samaikyandhra. They said that the agitation would continue till the UPA government rolls back its decision on Telangana state formation. Advocates took out a rally and went to State and Central government offices here, asking the employees to come out. After they came out, they locked up the offices and raised Samaikyandhra slogans. Clashes ensued between the protesters and the police when the former tried to forcibly shut down an LIC office. It led to a stampede.
The situation was brought under control when the police persuaded the agitating lawyers to disperse peacefully. The employees, students and women sat on the national highway on their knees near the Sri Krishnadevaraya University.
In Hindupur, students of various schools and colleges walked on their knees in protest against bifurcation of the state. They formed a human chain at the Sadbhavana circle and raised slogans in favour of Samaikyandhra. Some of the women were dressed up as Telugu Thalli and Bharat Mata.
