Rape victim ends life

Zaheerabad (Medak): Eighteen-year-old Savitri, who was subjected to rape at Zaheerabad on Friday night, committed suicide by jumping into an agriculture-well in her native village Koheera on Sunday. Daughter of a farm worker Narsamma who had died, Savitri had been staying with her mother and brother. On Friday morning Savitri left home telling her mother that she was going to Sangameswara temple at Jharasangam. However, she went to Zaheerabad and was listlessly moving around. One Sekhar struck a conversation with her and took her home. However, his wife did not like her husband bringing a stranger home. Sekhar, therefore, took Savitri to the railway station and moved around till late night. Assuring her that he would marry her, he took her to an isolated place under the railway bridge and raped her. He gave her Rs 50 and left her in the railway station. Some people at the railway station who observed her bleeding called 108 service and sent her to the government hospital. The doctors after examining her lodged a complaint with the police who arrested Sekhar. At the hospital she told the media that a youth of the village had raped her. She came to Zaheerabad to commit suicide but she was raped again by Sekhar. Meanwhile, Savitri's brother Paandu went to the government hospital and brought her home on Sunday. Unable to bear the humiliation of rapes, Savitri committed suicide by jumping into a well. TDP leaders in Zaheerabad staged dharna in the town in the evening protesting against the rape.
