Hyderabad: Eminent Ghazal singer Srinivas has decided to join politics. He will be joining Congress party on May 12, at a special function to be held at Gandhi Bhavan.
Stating that he has his roots in Congress, Srinivas told The Hans India, "My grandfather Kesiraju Venkata Narasimha Pantulu was a staunch congressman and an associate of Tanguturi Prakasham Pantulu. My mother and I are diehard fans of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Further I have already been a silent worker of the Congress party. So, I have been emotionally linked to the Congress and now I am taking a formal step." Ruling out contesting in the next elections, Ghazal Srinivas stressed that, "I am not after power. I just want to do my bit for popularising Congress schemes and I am not interested in becoming an MLA or MP. Even if a ticket is offered to me to contest from any constituency, I would reject it".
