As his fast entered sixth day, TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday was forcible administered fluids by the doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The doctors were forced to take this extreme step, after he refused to break his fast. Chandrababu Naidu has been on indefinite fast since Monday, protesting against government decision on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. If this was not done, his kidneys could be damaged, the doctors said.
RML Hospital Medical Superintendent H K Kar said, “A team of doctors tried to persuade Naidu to break his fast and to take glucose and vitamins. But he is refusing to take it and henceforth, we have decided to forcibly administer intravenous drips of DNS and vitamins. His liver, kidney and heart functioning is deteriorating and cardiac enzymes have increased. His uric acid level and potassium level has also increased which means he is utilizing his calories reserved.”
The doctors said that the TDP leader, who was shifted to the RML Hospital on Friday, had a peaceful sleep at night. "His life is important for us. His determination is firm and he has strong willpower," Dr Kar said.
Chandrababu Naidu was forcibly shifted to the RML Hospital on Friday, after he was forcibly evicted from the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan by the Delhi Police, amid high drama. A team of doctors comprising a cardiologist, two physicians and four resident doctors are monitoring the condition of Chandrababu Naidu at the RML Hospital.
Earlier, the TDP MPs, MLAs and workers tried to break the security cordon and protested at Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s 10, Janpath residence in the Capital on Saturday. “Sonia Down, Down” and “We want justice” were the slogans raised at the residence of Sonia Gandhi.
The TDP leaders and cadres mounted the barricades at her residence and protested aggressively. Later, the TDP workers, led by C M Ramesh, M Venugopal Reddy, K Narayana and K Ramamohan Rao staged protests at Jantar-Mantar.
