Sharmila Likely to be Star Campaigner of YSRCP, YSRCP leader Sharmila, Maro Prajaprastanam. YSRCP leader Sharmila, who has set a world record by completing 3,000 km padayatra - ‘Maro Prajaprastanam’ and shouldered responsibilities of the party while her brother and party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy was in jail, is gearing up for another stint - to be party’s star campaigner.
May contest elections if party directs.
YSRCP leader Sharmila, who has set a world record by completing 3,000 km padayatra - ‘Maro Prajaprastanam’ and shouldered responsibilities of the party while her brother and party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy was in jail, is gearing up for another stint - to be party’s star campaigner.
Though Sharmila is not keen to accept any post in the party or play an active role, she would lead the poll campaign as she wants to see her brother become the Chief Minister of the State, the party leaders told The Hans India.
Sharmila, who has already proved self to be a big crowd-puller and a charismatic leader, was already assisting Jagan in the form of analysing recent political developments with regards to bifurcation of State, said party leaders. She was also holding informal meetings with party district leaders on the instructions of Jagan and was assessing the party strength, caste equations and its winning prospects in the coming elections, they added.
Asked if she would contest the elections, they said that at this point of time there was no such indication but if the situation warrants and if Jagan asks her to contest for Lok Sabha, she may do so. This issue did figure a few times during internal discussion Jagan had with senior party leaders. Jagan wanted to know if Sharmila could make a difference in the party prospects if she contests in the elections and also which constituency Andhra or Rayalaseema would be better.
Senior leader G Ramachandra Rao said, Sharmila was always considered a strong leader of the party. Her only dream is to see Jagan as Chief Minister of United Andhra and continue her father’s legacy by implementing all welfare and development programmes taken up by YSR during his regime in the State.
