Strong political will needed to curb crimes against women: Venkaiah
Strong Political Will Needed to Curb Crimes Against Women: Venkaiah, Rajya Sabha MP M Venkaiah Naid. He was speaking at the state executive meeting of BJP Mahila Morcha held at a private degree college in Sanathnagar on Saturday.
Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP M Venkaiah Naidu said on Saturday that only a ‘strong political will’ would help in controlling crimes against women. It was shameful that atrocities against women were continuing unabated in spite of enacting Nirbhaya Act and nation-wide outrage against such crimes, he said.
He was speaking at the state executive meeting of BJP Mahila Morcha held at a private degree college in Sanathnagar on Saturday.
“The recent incident in Hyderabad is a grim reminder of the fact that the law did not have the expected effect. What is needed is a comprehensive and holistic approach to deal with this crucial issue,” he felt. According to Naidu, bringing an act alone would not suffice. The country should think in terms of giving capital punishment for offences like sexual assault and murder. That alone would send strong signals to the perpetrators, he added. The BJP leader
accused Congress party of betraying women on providing reservations for them in legislative bodies. It was ironical that the party headed by a woman and the government controlled by the same woman had not only failed to keep the promise but also put the issue on the back-burner though they had beem in power at the Centre, Naidu rued.
