Bus fire victims’ kin seek `25 lakh ex-gratia, govt jobs.

Hyderabad: The kin of the Volvo bus accident victims staged a dharna at Indira Park on Friday, seeking action against the operator of the bus. They demanded the immediate arrest of the owner of the bus that went up in flames killing 45 persons aboard on October 30. The victims’ families formed an action committee and demanded an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh and a government job besides stepping up of safety measures in all the buses. They displayed the documents related to the vehicle’s registration, vehicle lease agreement, which showed J C Prabhakar Reddy as the responsible party.

The families further sought the resignation of Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana as this was the second major accident after the accident of Kaleswari Travels, which claimed 30 lives earlier.

Immediate measures like installation of speed control lock devices, employing experienced double drivers in buses for journeys more than five hours, installation of hammers, fire extinguishers and exit doors on all buses were some of the demands that put forth by the agitating families. They further urged the government to take over the all the private buses. “It feels like time has stopped. I don’t know what to do now and where to go from here. My husband was a senior software engineer at CMC and was planning to buy a house in the city. Now we have come onto the roads, just because of the negligence of the government in protecting the civilians,” said wife of a victim.
