The Congress party MLA, and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) vice-chairman, Marri Sashidhar Reddy on Saturday demanded for an increase in the number of Assembly seats in Telangana state to 153 from the existing 119 constituencies, after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

At present, out of a total of 294 MLA seats in Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana share is 119 constituencies. He put forward the demand in the pretext of ensuring political stability. He opined that every Loksabha segment should have nine assembly seats; thereby making a count of 153 constituencies for existing 17 Loksabha segments.

He held a meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday evening with Congress leaders from Telangana region over the issue. Further another meeting is planned on the same agenda for Sunday to hold further discussions. It is likely that the T Congress leaders will meet the Congress high command and the government authorities on Monday to put forward their demand
