TTD Takes up Iron Fencing Near Footpath, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Safety Measures. The TTD Trust Board introduced a special queue Divya Darshan in the year 2008 for the pilgrims coming on foot for having a darshan of Lord Venkateshwara.

Tirumala: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which has already spent nearly Rs. 3. 5 crore for taking up safety measures for those coming on foot has also taken up the construction of an iron fence near the Annamaiah Marg at a cost of Rs 37 lakhs. The move has come in for criticism as it is being taken up without doing the necessary spadework. It is being taken up without proper planning.

The TTD Trust Board introduced a special queue Divya Darshan in the year 2008 for the pilgrims coming on foot for having a darshan of Lord Venkateshwara. With the result, people belonging to all age groups used to come to Tirumala in large numbers for having darshan and there was also a rise in the number of accidents, particularly in 2010, when a youth from Guntur fell into the Avvayyachari kona accidentally. But, he could survive and came out with grievous injuries after one week. Later, several people died after falling into the Avvayyacharikona accidentally and the TTD was pressurized to take up safety measures near the path at Avvayyacharikona. With the result, the TTD decided to revive and renovate the footpath adjacent to the ancient Ghanta mandapam at the Narasimha Swamy temple. However, it took the decision to construct a footway and without taking into consideration, the practical difficulties involved. The TTD specified authority Chairman Satyanarayana assured the pilgrims that all measures would be taken for their safety.

Even if the pilgrims who come by foot on the Ghanta Mandapam road, they would have to walk on the road at the Akkagarla temple. People were finding it difficult to trek the path as it was in a hilly region and was longer by 1 km and they were not showing interest in coming through this route. An expert team from Switzerland visited the Avvayacharikona to study the safety measures that have to be taken up. Speaking to the media, the TTD Joint Executive Officer Srinivas Raju said the TTD decided to construct a km long iron fence on the parapet wall at a cost of Rs 37 lakh and passed a resolution to this effect to tighten the security for the pilgrims.
