Pvt contractor dies in police custody

Hyderabad: Mystery shrouded the death of a 55-year-old private contractor of a local civic body at Chaderghat police station on Tuesday afternoon.

According to sources, the victim, a resident of Malakpet Housing Board Colony, is a private contractor with the GHMC and reportedly siphoned off funds to the tune of Rs 12 lakh. Based on a complaint, he was detained at the Chaderghat police station for interrogation and during the grilling he developed fatal heart attack and collapsed. He was rushed to New Life Hospital in Malakpet where he was declared brought dead. Though the postmortem report is yet to come, the police claimed that due to deterioration in the health condition he collapsed and breathed his last. The police later welcomed the ire of the residents of the area. They demanded probe his death.
