Hyderabad: Corporate social responsibility is a strategic imperative in Corporate Sector and it is mandatory in Company’s Act said A.K. Pavadia, Joint Secretary of Department of Public Enterprises at a seminar on “New Guidelines on CSR and Sustainability” in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Presentations were made by ECIL, NMDC and MIDHANI on the new Guidelines by Department of Public Enterprises on CSR and Sustainability and CSR provision in the Company’s Act 2013. “The main focus of this seminar is to spread awareness about the revised CSR and Sustainability Guidelines issued by Department of Public Enterprises and share good initiatives taken by various PSU. It promotes responsible business for Corporate Sector”, Pavadia said.
He further added that CSR is a strategic imperative in Corporate Sector and it is mandatory in Company’s Act. “CSR is concerned more about human rights, labor standards and community development and that it promotes responsible business for Corporate Sector”, he said.
V.S.B. Babu, the Director of Personnel said that CSR is new buzz in the market, adding that successful CSR initiatives need the help and support from all the employees of the organization. The seminar was organised by Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) in collaboration with Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India.
P.Sudhakar said that the concept of CSR is optimizing the contribution by the organizations for benefits to the society. He appealed to every individual employee to contribute for the development of CSR and society. S. Narsing Rao, the CMD, Coal India Limited and Guest of Honour said they are creating a separate cadre for CSR staff. He also said that DPE should identify some NGOs who have a reputation so that all PSUs could give the work to NGOs to be identified by DPE.
