Warangal: The year-long Kakatiya Festival concluded on a grand note here on Sunday.

The festivities related to the three-day valedictory organised at Warangal Fort, Thousand Pillars Temple and Ramappa Temple have ended on the day. Vibrant and dazzling dance, music and dramas marked the closing ceremony that was witnessed by thousands of people bracing the winter coldness.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice P Balaram Naik and Information Technology Services Minister P Lakshmaiah have unveiled a pylon at Vaddepalli tank in Hanamkonda in remembrance of the festival.

In a similar manner, a souvenir with about 400 pages containing rare writings by persons like late Premier P V Narasimha Rao, senior writers and experts like P V Parabrahman Sastry, Prof. Siva Kumar, Dendukiri Someshwara Rao, Amphasayya Naveen was released at Thousand Pillar Temple.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Balaram Naik said the tourist spots in Warangal district would be developed and the funds required would be provided. The Kakatiya Festival should be held every year and steps in that direction would taken, he said.

The issue of protection of Kakatiya monuments would be raised in the parliament to press for the funds towards the purpose. The next Kakatiya Festival would be held in separate Telangana state, he hoped.

Minister Lakshmaiah stated that year-long festival has succeeded in highlighting the significance of the Kakatiya rulers. The events have made the younger generation to look backwards and know about Kakatiyas and their importance in the history of Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Whip Gandra Venakata Ramana Reddy who addressed the gathering also stressed on the need to conduct the celebrations every year. In the coming years the festival would be organised in a much more grand manner, he added.

District collector District collector G Kishan, municipal commissioner G S Panda Das, ITDA project officer Sarfaraz Ahmed, joint collector Pausumi Basu, additional joint collector B Sanjeevaiah DPRO K Venkataramana and NIT retired professor M Panduranga Rao, Thousand Pillar Temple main priest Gangu Upendra Sharma others were present.
