CPI celebrates 88th Foundation Day, CPI 88th Foundation Day celebrations. Former general secretary of the CPI A B Bardhan on Thursday said that the country was passing through political, economic, social and even moral crisis
Hyderabad: Former general secretary of the CPI A B Bardhan on Thursday said that the country was passing through political, economic, social and even moral crisis.
Addressing the State party leaders here on the occasion of 88th Foundation Day celebrations, Bardhan said the country was at the crossroads right at this moment. Many parties have sprung up. Many democratic struggles are taking place under those parties who do not have allegiance with the communists. There are two mainstream Communist parties in the country who believe in parliamentary democracy. And many small Communist parties and groups also exist. “Yes there are differences but sooner or later definitely we will solve those problems and achieve unity. We have revolutionary optimism. This situation of crisis will facilitate a new situation for upsurge,” he said.
The veteran party leader exuded confidence that the Left parties would play a decisive role in the next general elections. He said that emergence of CPI in the political arena of this country was not a sudden development. Several historical reasons were behind its emergence. In 1920, a battle was fought against British imperialism. Indian National Congress under the leadership of Gandhi who returned from South Africa carried forward the struggle against racism. They carried forward the battle of 1857 (first war of independence) which was lost. But this battle was withdrawn by Congress and younger generation of that time was totally dissatisfied. They wanted revolutionary way out. That led to foundation of new party. Describing the split amongst the Communist parties as ‘unfortunate’, he said that leaders were looking forward to see that they get united again as their goals were same.“Our unity presupposes common approach towards the form of struggle and victory will be ours”, he added.
The State secretary K Narayana said, that politicians were changing their parties often. So to know a politician to which party he belonged to was a big dilemma. Certain political leaders were not honouring legislative bodies. They are insulting even the Assembly, he said. Narayana said the State was being ruled by private bus mafia.
Buses are plying without permits and the State Government was unable to control the mafia. Similarly, fish mafia was ruling Kolleru area of West Godavari. Liquor mafia is controlling business worth of Rs 28,000 crore. The Assembly is not working, so mafia is active. In this situation there was a need for unity amongst the Communist parties and the Communist movement needs to be strengthened, he added.
