In this accident, 23 people died, while 15 people got severely injured. B-1 bogie of the train got completely damaged due to fire. Another bogie adjacent to B-1 bogie got partially damaged. The death toll is likely to increase. The train caught fire in between Kotta Cheruvu and Puttaparti stations. While everyone was sleeping, all of sudden the train caught fire and B-1 bogie got completely damaged in this incident. It is envisaged that all the passengers in the bogie might have lost their lives.
The immediately alerted railway staff halted the train at Puttaparti station and immediately delinked the AC bogies. The rescue forces are trying to put off the fire. It is learnt that 72 passengers were boarded in these two damaged cabins. 15 dead bodies have been extracted from the bogies; but, more dead bodies are expected to be there inside the cabin. Few passengers got struck inside the bogies. 7 people who got severely injured in this accident; and they have been rushed to Dharmavaram hospital.
Fire engines rushed the spot, within a short notice. The rescue team has been taken from Dharmavaram station to the spot of accident. As most of the passengers rushed out of the cabins, the death toll is said to be at its minimum.
