Hyderabad: Tempers ran high in the Assembly on Friday during the debate on the draft AP Reorganisation Bill as TRS legislator K Vidyasagar Rao rushed menacingly towards Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas and allegedly tried to manhandle him. The TRS legislator also allegedly manhandled one of the senior most MLAs, Gade Venkata Reddy (Congress), triggering angry protests by Seemaandhra members cutting across party lines.
The four-hour-long debate witnessed heated exchanges between the Congress and TRS benches. At one stage, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy went to the extent of claiming that the former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao did not have faith in the people of Telangana and hence contested from Rayalaseema.
Amidst protests from the TRS, the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu utilised the opportunity to take a dig at the Congress party saying that it had insulted Rao after his death by sending the body to Hyderabad. The state government too did not show the respect he deserved.
On the other hand, the YSRCP members staged a walkout, and are likely to boycott the proceedings when the House would meet again on January 17 after the Sankranti break. They staged a walkout from both Houses, registering their protest against the refusal of the Speaker to give any assurance in regard to voting on the Bill for not accepting their demand to move a resolution to keep the state united.
The YSRCP floor leader said New Delhi had ignored various assurances given from time to time on the issue of bringing a resolution before the Assembly. In 2001, the Centre said that it would constitute second states re-organisation committee. Similar views were expressed at the meeting of the presiding officers held at Bhopal. Late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy also asked for the second SRC. But the manner in which the Centre sent the Draft T Bill was in contravention of those assurances, she said. Meanwhile, all the political parties including YSRCP moved amendments to the draft T Bill.
