Justice Sudarshan Reddy moots panel to protect people’s rights
Justice Sudarshan Reddy moots panel to protect people’s rights, Separate State for Telangana. The judge observed that once the new Telangana government was formed it would have to focus attention on steps to preserve the Hyderabadi culture besides streamlining the legal set-up.
Hyderabad: Justice B Sudarshan Reddy, former judge of the Supreme Court, has suggested setting up of a panel, on the lines of the SC, ST and BC Commissions, after the formation of Telangana to ensure that people enjoy their constitutional rights.
Addressing the gathering after releasing a book, ‘Separate State for Telangana’, written by former MLC B Kamalakar Rao, he said the panel would also pave the way for the establishment of a just society, without any inequalities and discrimination.
The judge observed that once the new Telangana government was formed it would have to focus attention on steps to preserve the Hyderabadi culture besides streamlining the legal set-up.
He charged that some people in influential positions were ‘distributing’ Wakf Board lands. This was in contrast to the rule of the Nizam, who did not resort to misuse of power despite being involved in some property disputes.
Referring to the Assembly debate on the Telangana Bill, he remarked that some members’ comments showed that they have no respect for the Constitution. However, Justice Sudarshan Reddy expressed confidence that Telangana would soon become a reality.
Telangana JAC chairman Prof M Kondandaram claimed that there was no real development in the region as not only politicians, but even officials adopted a negligent attitude. He pointed out that the separatist Telangana struggle had brought about awareness among the people about ‘what we can do’.
Ch. Hanumantha Rao, Vice-chancellor, University of Hyderabad, released the book.
