Will not allow usurping of govt lands, warns JP, Lok Satta, JP's satyagraha. He further said that his party would soon expose attempts by a politician to grab government lands in twin cities worth thousands of crores.

Holds one-day ‘satyagraha’ against rampant encroachments in Greater Hyderabad

“The Lok Satta entered the scene only after government officials’ showed inaction to stop the encroachment of a link road that was in use for last 25 years”

Pointing out that Lok Satta’s fight against encroachments of government lands had just began, its presidents Dr Jayaprakash Narayan stated that his party would not allow land grabbers to carry on their misdeeds.

He further said that his party would soon expose attempts by a politician to grab government lands in twin cities worth thousands of crores.

Jayaprakash staged a six-hour long silent ‘satyagraha’ near Gokul Plots in Serilingampally on Tuesday (January 14) protesting against the State government’s negligent attitude in safeguarding government lands in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. The decision was taken after police cases were filed against four Lok Satta leaders including party state president Katari Srinivas Rao for demolishing pillars raised by a private builder for erecting a gate across a road opposite Gokul Plots.

MLC K Nageshwar, former chief secretary Kaki Madhava Rao, political analyst Prof Haragopal, film producer Tammareddy Bharadwaja and local BJP, TDP and CPI leaders, besides families of Palem bus tragedy victims visited the place and expressed their solidarity with the Lok Satta chief.

Prof Haragopal and Kaki Madhava Rao offered him coconut water in the evening marking the end of the fast. Later addressing the gathering, the Lok Satta leader called upon the government to constitute a committee comprising GHMC top officials, deputy collectors and surveyors besides Rapid Action Force for protecting government lands. He challenged the government to arrest him instead of locals if safeguarding government property was a crime. “The Lok Satta entered the scene only after government officials’ showed inaction to stop the encroachment of a link road that was in use for last 25 years,” he reasoned. Earlier MLC Nageshwar lambasted the State administration for not taking effective steps to protect 1,800 acres of government lands in Hyderabad and its outskirts even after being alerted by legislators like him. Prof Haragopal explained how the State government had conceded 273 acres of land in Botanical Gardens near Kondapur to three private individuals in the name of eco-tourism. The fight against government’s decision was still on, he said.

On the other hand, Aruna, a local resident, stated that they approached Lok Satta party after GHMC officials ignored their repeated pleas to intervene in the issue to warn the builder against encroaching.

JP cuts a cake on his birthday

Interestingly, January 14 happened to be the birthday of the Lok Satta chief, who cut a cake in the presence of his party leaders and activists after the culmination of the satyagraha.
