Hyderabad: In a daring robbery, thieves gained entry into a jewellery shop at Somajiguda here on Friday night, by cutting a hole in the rear wall of the shop and decamped with gold and silver ornaments weighing nearly 30 kg.

The shop, Tanishq, is located on the ground floor of a building on the main road of Somajiguda, a stone’s throw away from CM’s Camp Office as well as Punjagutta police station. The thieves ensured that no fingerprints could be traced, apart from securing themselves from CCTV footage. Police suspect the hand of inter-state criminals in the crime.

The CCTV footage of the showroom showed an unidentified person entering the premises from the rear side and decamping with the booty, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said. “Special teams have been formed by the Central Crime Station (CCS) officials. We are verifying visuals and investigation will be carried out in all angles,” Sharma said.

A senior police official said that though only one person was visible in the video footage, they cannot rule out the possibility of involvement of more. The official also said the value of the jewellery cannot be ascertained immediately as the assessment is still going on.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot along with the clues team. Sniffer dogs were brought to the showroom for leads about the offender.

Police collected some vital information which we cannot share at this point, he said.

Punjagutta police received a complaint of theft only at 10 am on Saturday. A case under Section 380 (theft) of the IPC has been registered based on a complaint from the showroom officials.
