New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday assured that the government was committed to the creation of Telangana. This was made abundantly clear when TRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao met him at the head of a delegation on the issue of Telangana. Soon after the all-party meeting called by Speaker Meira Kumar, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, “There is the vital issue of Telangana. We will be bringing a Bill in Parliament for its approval and I sincerely hope that after a long debate extending over many years, the House will, in its wisdom, be able to transact the business and pass the Bill relating to the creation of the state of Telangana.” The Prime Minister said this is going to be the last session of the 15th Lok Sabha. There are important legislations, which are pending for approval by Parliament. There are important legislations relating to anti-corruption measures.

There is important legislation with regard to Women’s Reservation Bill. There is important business concerning the control of Communal violence. “I sincerely hope that Parliament, in its wisdom, will transact the essential business which is the primary concern of any legislature in a parliamentary democracy,” he said. Earlier in the morning, Chandrasekhar Rao, who led a delegation to the Prime Minister, thanked the Prime Minister for his assurance on the formation of Telangana. Chandrashekhar Rao submiited a memorandum to the Prime Minister, seeking some changes and amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, to which the Prime Minister said he would examine the same.

Later, he also met Union Science & Technology Minister S Jaipal Reddy.

The memorandum staked claim to the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan and the adjoining areas along the Hyderabad House belonged to the erstwhile Nizam and belonged to the erstwhile Hyderabad State.

Chandrashekhar Rao raised the issue of Pensioners, who are to be distributed on the basis of population. To this, he sought modification. Division of employees was another issue that was raised.

A strong objection was raised to the issue of giving special powers to the Governor, by arming him with the law and order responsibility of Hyderabad. “The issue is as to whether the democratically-elected Government of Telangana cannot look after the security of life, liberty and property of its four crore people?” the memorandum asked. The memorandum also raised the issue of Provisional Assembly for Telangana and a separate High Court for Telangana.
