TUWJ would be 29th journalists association in the country and will be official from the ‘appointed day’

Hyderabad: In the wake of bifurcation of the State, Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) has decided to set up two separate units for Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh. Senior journalists Nangunuri Shekhar and K Virahath Ali were appointed president and general secretary respectively of the Telangana unit of the association, TUWJ.

Presidents and secretaries of 23 districts besides state and national council members met here on Sunday to discuss the future of the journalists association. The meeting decided to float Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) association especially for 10 districts of Telangana that has more than 8,000 members on its rolls.

Indian Journalists Union secretary-general Devulapalli Amar and former secretary-general K Srinivas Reddy briefed the media about details of the meeting.

Srinivas Reddy said that TUWJ would be the 29th journalists association in the country.

APUWJ name would be retained for the working journalists unit of residuary Andhra Pradesh. He informed that an application to this effect was submitted to the Labour Commissioner and that the division would be official as soon as the 'appointed day' is announced.

Twenty-five members of the APUWJ hailing from Telangana region were also included in the ad hoc committee appointed for Telangana.
