Hyderabad: The cases of gold smuggling are on rise now a day. Even after so many cases have been let slipped in the recent past, the smuggling has not been stopped. Early on Tuesday, the customs officials have seized ½ kg gold hidden inside the shoe of the passengers who arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International airport from Thailand. The accused have been detained and being interrogated by the officials.

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Sahmshabad in Hyderabad has become the prime setting for the gold smuggling. The cases of gold smuggling are at a rise from the time restrictions have been imposed for gold import.

The officials have seized 62kg gold just in a short span of 3 months i.e. from October to December last year. The approximate value of the gold seized by the officials is estimated to be Rs 20cr. Even during the last two months, the officials have seized a huge quantity of gold. The officials have been very knack to catch hold of the smugglers during the regular frisking operations.
