Tirupati: Former Union Minister D Purendeswari, who recently joined the BJP, on Monday reaffirmed that the sole aim of her party shift was to ensure a better future for the residuary State. It was also to see that Seemandhra was bailed out from ‘impending financial crisis’ following the bifurcation, to become ‘Swarnadhra Pradesh’.

In her first public appearance, Purendeswari, speaking at ‘Modi for PM campaign’ meeting here, said she was perturbed about Seemandhra future after the Telangana Bill was approved without any guarantee of development, including education, agriculture, health.

‘Besides, the way the Bill was approved in a most undemocratic and undesirable manner in the Lok Sabha pained me and compounded my fears about the future of Seemandhra’, she said, citing the TV blackout of the proceedings and baring media in the Lok Sabha.

’Against the distressing and gloomy backdrop, I resolved to join BJP only after my and other Seemandhra ministers and leaders’ repeated efforts to get a firm assurance on including packages for Seemandhra in the Bill failed to get any commitment from the party high command, including Sonia Gandhi’, she explained. Resenting mudslinging against her by some Congress leaders, she said the manner the T Bill was adopted in the Lok Sabha and also events that preceded the Prime Minister’s announcement of special packages for Seemandhra, in the Rajya Sabha, only after the valiant struggle by BJP leaders, including Venkaiah Naidu, reveal the truth and vindicate her stand. She urged that efforts to defame her be stopped.

Purandeswari said many veteran Congress leaders like Galla Arunakumari belonging to a Congress family, which was with the party for three generations, and also Kiran Reddy, whose family too backed the party for generations, had quit. ‘I joined the Congress only 10 years back, but what about them, i.e Arunakumari and Kiran Reddy and what forced them quit the party’, she wondered. She said `it was the party which discarded us all, not we’.

She recalled how her father, the late NTR, chose Tirupati as the launch pad of his TDP in Tirumala, which he regarded as `punayabhumi’. `I don’t’ know whether it was accidental or destiny’, she said, adding that `for me Tirupati is karmabhumi too, elated at starting her career as BJP leader from here.

Earlier, former Union Minister and yesteryear actor U V Krishnam Raju predicted that that on August 15 Modi would hoist the flag from the Red Fort, exuding confidence of the BJP winning the elections.
