Hyderabad: The YSR Congress Party has worked out a road map to make inroads in Telangana. The party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has been holding marathon meetings with party leaders for the past two days on the issue at his lotus pond house.

According to party leaders, YSRCP has fielded 110 candidates for the Assembly and 13 parliamentary constituencies.

Sources said that the party of late has been getting positive response from the people in the region and hence it has decided to intensify the election campaign in all the ten districts of Telangana.

Barring Maheswaram assembly constituency where the party candidate D Bhaskar Reddy was forced to withdraw his nomination on the insistence of Telangana activists, all the other contestants who filed nominations have plunged into the election campaign in Telangana.

Jagan is learnt to have told the party leaders that his sister Sharmila will be the main campaigner in the region and all the candidates should exploit the popularity of his father and former Chief minister YS Rajasekahra Reddy. He directed them to meet the beneficiaries of the YSR’s flagship schemes- fee reimbursement, Arogya Sri, free power and other welfare programmes. He also asked them to hold meetings with minorities, Dalits and STs (constituted about 17 to 20 per cent of the total voters in T region) who got huge benefits during YSR regime in the state. The schedule for Sharmila’s visit and roads shows would be announced next week.

The party would also get national party status if the party gets considerable vote in Telangana, Jagan said.

Vijayamma chants ‘Swarna Yugam’

Meanwhile, the honorary president of YSRCP YS Vijayamma stressed here on Saturday that the party should be voted to power for ushering in ‘Swarna Yugam’ (golden era) in the State.

Addressing meetings at Nandivelugu and Kovalle villages as part of the YSRCP ‘Janabheri’ election campaign, she alleged that during the Chandrababu Naidu rule, farmers, employees, students and women faced many problems and that the State failed to achieve development. Vijayamma praised the YSR administration, saying it was ‘Swarna Yugam’, which benefited all sections of people. She pledged to appoint 10 women police constables among people to check flow of illicit liquor to villages. Her ‘Janabheri Yatra’ continued in Kolakalur, Gudiwada, Angalakuduru and Chavavaripalem.
