KCR backstabbed Congress: Rahul. AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for failing to act on its promise to \"merge with the Congress after separate Telangana State is announced.”
TRS has only short-term dreams; it wants only power
We want to make Telangana No. 1 State in the country
Congress can alone do justice to all sections of people
Hyderabad: AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for failing to act on its promise to "merge with the Congress after separate Telangana State is announced.”
Addressing a public meeting at Dichpally in Nizamabad district, Rahul, without mentioning the name of KCR, said, “He came to my residence after the Parliament adopted the Telangana Bill. He thanked me for realising the dreams of Telangana people and shook my hands. He promised me of his party’s full support to the Congress. He also hugged me. He again shook my hand and said he will be with me and left my house. After coming out of the house he backstabbed the Congress. He did not stick to his word.”
Rahul pitched for a Congress government in the new Telangana State that would be formally born on June 2, saying the front-runner TRS, "makes promises but does not fulfill them... they said a Dalit should be Telangana's CM but forgot about it. TRS wants only power.” Such leaders, Rahul said, would be of no help in the development of Telangana. He said the people of Telangana should dream big and vote for a party that was capable of realising those big dreams. Parties like TRS have “short-term dreams.”
He said the only objective behind giving T the Statehood was to render justice to all sections of people including BC, SC, ST, minority, women and students who fought for Telangana for about 60 years. “We want to make Telangana number one state in the country in terms of development.”
He said if Congress comes to power, it will develop Telangana because it knows how to rule, how to achieve development and how to make all sections of people part of the development. Congress alone can ensure social justice, protect secular values and carry along all sections of people.
But if the people vote for parties like TRS, they would have short-term dreams and goals. Parties like the BJP are known to divide the people on religious lines. BJP, he said, works only to benefit a few businessmen and industrialists.
"They want two types of India – One for poor and another for the rich. “We want one India where all people should enjoy the fruits of development," Rahul added.
Earlier addressing a meeting at Mahabubnagar, Rahul said the dream of Telangana people would not have been realised if AICC president Sonia Gandhi was not there at the Centre. While TRS was nowhere when the Telangana Bill was getting shaped. The TDP and the YSR Congress opposed it till the end and the BJP also did not support the Bill in Rajya Sabha. In fact, he said, it was Congress party which had taken up the T issue much before TRS was born. Over 40 MLAs had submitted a memorandum demanding T state in 2000, he said.
He further said the Congress party, if voted to power, would set up 4000 MW power plant to overcome power crisis in T state. It would also give 10-year tax holiday; create industrial corridors so that there would be balanced development of the State. Congress would also accord national project status to Pranahita-Chevella and Palamur lift irrigation projects. He also promised that the Congress would provide houses for all.
Pointing at Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy who is contesting from Mahabubnagar LS constituency, Rahul said that Jaipal would draw his attention to the requirements of the district and that the Congress would take care of their needs.
Rahul also made a mention of various measures like the Right to Education Act, Food Security Bill, Right to Employment (MNREGA) and other schemes which it had introduced to help 15 crore downtrodden people in the country. He also assured that if UPA comes back to power, it will pass the women’s reservation bill which has been pending for decades.
Before the meeting, Telangana Congress leaders welcomed the Rahul Gandhi. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Jaipal Reddy, DK Aruna, Ponnala, Jana Reddy etc were present at the meeting in Mahabubnagar while leaders like D Srinivas, Shabbir Ali, Dr Shravan and others were present Dichpally.
Jaipal Reddy praised Rahul Gandhi as a youth icon. “Rahul Gandhi never talks in a rush. He aptly represents the present generation. TRS party doesn't have any direction and doesn’t know what it actually wants. Only Congress can provide a stable governance and Telangana development is possible only with it,” he added.
