Hyderabad: Chief Secretary P K Mohanty on Sunday convened a meeting with collectors and joint collectors of all districts in view of formation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh State from June 2. Dr Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute in Jubilee Hills was the venue for the meeting which was held from 11am to 2 pm. After a brief address by Chief Secretary on challenges ahead, Collectors of few districts shared their thoughts and experiences on conduct of Municipal, MPTC, ZPTC elections and general elections, implementation of development and welfare programmes, state-level support needs and suggestions for good governance, and cadre management and civil services issues.

Nalgonda Collector spoke about the confusion faced by the illiterate voters in his district due to allotment of common symbols to independent candidates in Assembly and Parliament elections. He also laid emphasis on staying away from auto, motorcycle and other symbols, which resemble that of recognised parties.

He also spoke about misuse of postal ballot particularly by teachers, and made few suggestions in this regard. Later, senior officials gave presentations on different subjects.

They are Finance Special Secretary Ramakrishna Rao on State reorganisation; Principal Secretary Raymond Peter on development and welfare programmes; Special Chief Secretary Pradeep Chandra on industry and infrastructure; Irrigation Principal Secretary Nagi Reddy on irrigation and water resources; Finance Principal Secretary Ajeya Kallam on financial management; and Revenue Principal Secretary B R Meena on revenue administration.
