Chiranjeevi has been maintaining distance from the Congress party since it got decimated in the general elections. Chiranjeevi has been keeping away from party affair quiet sometime. However, he will continue as a Congress MP retaining his Rajya Sabha seat.

Top Congress sources told The Hans India that Chiranjeevi has informed the party high command about his disinclination to continue as the leader of the party. The MP requested AICC president Sonia Gandhi to relieve him from all the responsibilities he was given before the elections. However, he told the high command that he would continue to be with the Congress party.

Sources said that a close aide of Sonia Gandhi spoke to Chiranjeevi and tried to convince him, but as he insisted that he be left free to revive his filmy career, the party leadership has left the matter to his conscience. Chiranjeevi happens to be the lone charismatic leader in the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh at present.

It is learnt that he has been focussing on fitness for his return to films and has now become slimmer. Chiranjeevi, the source said, had been holding a series of meetings with film directors and busy in discussing stories and various scripts so that he could stage a comeback to films with his 150th film.
