Visakhapatnam: If plans go according to the aspirations of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) administrators, the ACA-VDCA stadium at Photinamallayyapalem near here may join the elite band of cities privileged to host Test matches.
Association Secretary Gokaraju Gangaraju said here on Friday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had responded favourably to their plea for giving the ground a Test status.
He was talking to reporters about ACA's diamond jubilee celebrations to be held here over the weekend. ACA had approached the BCCI for permission to hold Test matches and the Board officials visited the ACA-Vizag District Cricket Association stadium and suggested some minor changes, which would be effected by this month-end.
BCCI may sanction Test matches at the stadium next month, he added. Already, the stadium has hosted ODIs and T20 international matches. “We are hopeful that in the ensuing BCCI general body meeting, a decision granting the status would be taken, which will be a feather in our cap if we get it. Already we have hosted seven One-Day International matches, six of them here,” he said.
