Kakinada: Pulasa, the favourite delicacy of gourmets, is back again enticing one and all to taste the finger-licking fish variety of the season.

The celebrity fish which is available only in Godavari River during this season invites the fish lovers in hordes to taste it. No wonder thousands of gourmets throng the fish markets to buy this variety which costs anywhere between Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000 a kg.

During the months of August and September, Pulasa enters the sweet water of Godavari from the salt water of the Bay of Bengal swimming against the current.

Though it is available throughout the length of Godavari, the demand is more for the fish caught at Dhowleswaram near Rajahmundry though they are available in abundant at Yanam and Bobbarlanka. Relatives and friends of the local people land there only to buy the prized Pulasa. No wonder the season is well described as Pulasa Food Festival.

The silver-coloured fish is sold like hotcake once the fishermen brought from the river.

However, precautions should be taken in cooking this fish variety to enjoy its taste in full.
