Chandrababu’s 100 day report card

There is no doubt that the successor state of Andhra Pradesh had no better option than Chandrababu Naidu as the Chief Minister of the state, for obvious reasons. His previous record and achievements have ultimately led him to be chosen as the Chief Minister of the state.

It was the crucial time when Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has taken the reigns of the state government into his hand. The successor state, for obvious reasons needs a good leadership to resolve many flagrant and unfamiliar problems. Monday (September 15, 2014) is the 100th day for Chandrababu Naidu’s regime as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh state.

The key issues undertaken by Naidu are appended below:

• Considering various crucial issues such as crop loan waiver, NTR Sujala water Scheme, Enhancement of pension for Aged people, Increase in employees’ retirement age and belt shops ban for the implementation - soon after the swearing-in ceremony.
• For any newly emerging state, it is essential to maintain a good relationship with the centre to acquire more funds. As a visionary person, Naidu had envisaged the victory of BJP in the centre long back and tied up an alliance with the party, and continued a rapport with the party.
• Despite the fact there was some opposition - Naidu has announced Vijayawada as the capital city of successor state of Andhra Pradesh on September 4. In fact Chandra Babu Naidu’s idea of having a state capital near Vijayawada has a very deep thought process involved. Despite it is a valid point that the land acquisition is going to cost more in this area, the government will be saving a lot of money in creating infrastructure and connectivity to the capital since both Vijayawada and Guntur are already well connected and developed.
• Formulation of Vision 2029 with a wide range of plans is another key issue as far as Naidu’s progress is concerned.
• A decision of setting up canteens in the name of Anna canteens (on the name of late NTR) has come from Naidu’s government.
• There is no doubt that there is a slight delay in executing such crucial issues like crop loan waiver. But, if we have a deep look into the issue, the issue has taken many turns and the government is not dealing this particular issue alone. Various external agencies like banks and RBI are also the stakeholders. So, the delay has been obvious.

Additionally, though the capital is proposed to be established near to Vijayawada or Guntur, the Chief Minister considers the development in and around the capital. He plans to spread various other firms that surely ensure development across all 13 districts so that the state will have an extended capital with Vijayawada and Guntur becoming the twin cities like Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Telangana. It is also thought of by the state government in the next few years to concentrate on developing the Metro Rail and International Airports in the capital and encourages industrialization, there by creating more employment opportunities, apart from the development of the ports.

The TDP government has go-getting plans to convert Andhra Pradesh into Swarnandhra Pradesh and place it among the top three states in the country by 2022. Chandra Babu is also clear in his priorities of not having a capital in remote location like Donakonda as suggested by Sivaramakrishnan committee that do not have even proper road and rail connectivity. If the capital is in such state, it is certain that no investor will come forward to put in his money there since the place lacks proper infrastructure despite any amount of tax concessions.

It is always better to have a firm vision and go ahead in a pre-planned manner without taking any diversions, thereafter. In this way, what is thought of by Naidu is right in his point of view.

An elected government gets 5 years time to implement what has been promised by the parties during the election campaigning. So, it is not fair to judge any government as poor or greatly within a short span of time. Nevertheless, if the moves alone towards the progression are concerned, indubitably Chandrababu Naidu’s government is doing a better job. Let’s wish the Andhra Pradesh government led by Naidu to maintain the same spirit and develop the successor state, the wish of everyone!!
