Dr. Rajiv Sharma, the Chief Secretary of Telangana State, has written to I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, his counterpart in Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. In that letter he mentioned that Dr. K. L. Rao Sagar Pulichintala Project on river Krishna is a recently commissioned project before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh with a total storage capacity of 45 TMC of water. Further, it is said that the part of submergence under the reservoir is in Nalgonda district of Telangana state and the other part in Guntur district of AP state.

Further, Dr. Rajiv Sharma mentioned in the letter that in view of copious releases from Nagarjuna Sagar the water will be impounded in Pulichintala project. He pointed out that without providing resources for rehabilitation and resettlement of villages in Nalgonda district the state of Andhra Pradesh started impounding the water due to which several villages of Nalgonda are submerged.

Also, he requested the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh to direct the concerned authorities of Pulichintala not to impound water without completing rehabilitation and resettlement work in the district of Nalgonda.

It is also learnt that in an identical letter, the Chief Secretary of Telangana State has also requested Alok Rawat, the Secretary Water Resources in Govt. of India, to direct the Govt. of AP not to go ahead with the impounding of water while bringing the facts to his notice.

From the other end, the irrigation Minister Harish Rao, spoke to Aditya Nath Das, the Irrigation Secretary of Govt. of AP, to resolve the issue. Further, he demanded to release compensation to the affected people due to the submerging of villages.
