New software to ensure transparency in citizen services

Stating this, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said on Saturday that the new software would be used by the municipal administrations across the State with commissioners of 111 municipalities of residual Andhra Pradesh taking the lead.

The municipal corporations of Mumbai and Pune are already using such software. AP municipal administration officials have recently visited these two cities and sought details of the software.The Minister held talks with top honchos of TCS and discussions are on with a few other software companies.

Narayana has directed the municipal commissioners to see that one crore saplings are planted every year in the State. The Minister said that roads, street lights, garbage disposal and sanitation must get top priority in every municipality. Referring to the new initiative asking citizens to send photo and address when they find pot holes or garbage littered on roads either through mobile phone or through mail to the municipal commissioners, he said it had started yielding results. So far, various commissioners have received 540 complaints, 390 of them are addressed and photos have been uploaded on the department's website.

The Minister said the revenues of municipalities would be improved without resorting to tax hikes. Houses and commercial establishments that are not being assessed for taxes would be brought into the tax net. Similarly, municipal water taps that are outside tax cover so far will be assessed henceforth.
