Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh State Health Minister K Srinivas said the government had decided to introduce a pilot project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) to extend cardio-thoracic operations at Guntur General Hospital.

Addressing media here on Tuesday, he said if this initiative would be successful, the same would be replicated in other areas as well.

Srinivas said, in addition to this initiative, the Central government had released funds to set up super specialty hospitals at Vijayawada, Guntur, Anantapur and Visakhapatnam. The State government had also proposed to set up super specialty hospitals at Kurnool, Vizianagaram and Prakasam districts. He said that new maternity hospitals would come up in Guntur and Kakinada towns. It was also decided to add super specialty wards at Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).

The Minister said the State government had decided to provide health cards to employees from October 30 and for journalists in November. Srinivas asked the employees of the State-run hospitals to be on time for their duties. The government would introduce bio-metric system of attendance at all government hospitals in the State.

Following the Central government policy, the Minister said it had been decided to open 1,000 generic medical shops to provide drugs and medicines at low cost. Besides, the government has also plans to organise medical diagnosis tests for children below the age of 18 years.

Detailing the agenda set for the Minister by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, he said modernising hospital administration and maintaining sanitation and hygiene would be given top priority. All hospitals in the State were given a three-month deadline to complete the sanitation drive, he added.
