Over our bodies only, warn women ryots

Guntur: Tension built up in villages under Thulluru, Mangalagiri and Tadepalli mandals in Guntur district as the Cabinet Sub-Committee members visited the villages and urged the farmers to part with their lands for capital city. At Nidamarru village under Mangalagiri mandal, a woman farmer on Monday came armed with pesticide to the village meeting, organised by RDO Bhaskara Naidu. A large number of farmers, including women, attended the meeting.

As the farmers heckled the RDO and other officers, a woman farmer, identified as Anjamma, barged into the meeting and threatened to commit suicide.

The spectacle of a woman farmer holding the pesticide bottle attracted the attention of the huge crowd of farmers at the meeting and they raised slogans against the government. The farmers even threatened the officials of dire consequence, if they dared visit their villages again. Meanwhile, at Venkatayapalem village under Thullur mandalthe villagers raised slogans against TDP MLA Shravan Kumar. The MLA had to make a hasty retreat.
