Election Observer Anita Rajendran expressed satisfaction over the progress of voter enrollment programme being conducted in the district here on Tuesday.
Kakinada (East Godavari): Election Observer Anita Rajendran expressed satisfaction over the progress of voter enrollment programme being conducted in the district here on Tuesday. Addressing a review meeting on changes in the Voters List with the representatives of recognised political parties, Tahsildars and the IROs at the Collectorate in the town on Tuesday, she elicited the cooperation of all the political parties in updating the voters’ list with new voters who turn 18 on January 1, 2015. The name of each and every eligible candidate should be included in the voters list, she said.
Anita Rajendran said that although there were 2.46 lakh eligible voters who were between the ages of 18 and 19 years, only 36,000 voters have been registered. As such, the IROs and the political parties should focus on the enrollment programme and enroll as many voters as possible.
The State Election Observer said that a draft list of voters was prepared and if changes have to be made in it, the claims and objections should be made by December 8 and the corrections should be done by December 22 by the IROs. She said that she toured six constituencies in the district till now and noticed that Part IV of the affidavit was not filled up and the officials concerned should help the voters in filling up this section.
Similarly, those who come from other parts and enroll themselves in this district should make it clear in the affidavit that they were not enrolled as voter at any other place.
In her speech, District Collector Neethu Prasad said that the College principals should take the help of IROs in the voter enrollment programme and political parties should play a key role in enrolling as voters those who completed 18 years of age.
District CPI (M) secretary Madhu wanted to know as to why only anganwadi workers were being appointed as booth level officers. He said that staff of other government departments should also be appointed as BLWs.
Additional Joint Collector D Markendeyuly, CPI leader Veera Babu, Congress leader N Venkateshwara Rao and others were present.
