Vijayawada: Farmers of Thulluru mandal, where the State government has proposed to build capital city, are increasingly migrating to Palnadu region in Guntur district and Darsi zone in Prakasam district. • Ryots selling off their lands and purchasing lands in Palnadu region in Guntur district and Darsi zone in Prakasam district
  • Land price in capital region exceeds Rs 1 cr an acre
  • Scenes are reminiscent of the day when agriculturists travelled to Telangana districts in 1950s

The money secured by selling just two acres of land in Thulluru is enabling farmers to purchase several acres in Piduguralla, Macherla, Gurazala and Phirangipuram under Palandu region and Darsi zone. The farmers are buying large extents of land –between 20 and 30 acres – in the two regions wherever water for irrigation is abundantly available.

The price of agriculture lands here range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 30 lakh an acre. The land holdings around Macharla lake and Janapadu lake in Palnadu region, East Veerayapalem tank, Chinnavullagallu, Pulipadu pond, Samanthapudi tank, Thimmayapalem pond and Podili tank in Prakasam district were already bought by the farmers from Thulluru mandal.

"The farmers have big money in their hands now as some of them have sold two to three acres of lands for better price. Some of them have spent the money on luxury cars, while majority of them are purchasing large extent of lands in Palnadu and Darsi areas. The farmers cannot do anything excepting farming and this has led to them sending to far-off place in search of agriculture lands,” said a farmer and former BJP leader Anumolu Gandhi.

He owns about 20 acres of land in Lingayapalem and Inavolu villages. The migration of farmers to new pastures is reminiscent of the days when the ryots from Krishna and Guntur districts sold off their lands and bought larges extents in Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Medak and Nizamabad districts in Telangana in 1950s.

A large number of farmers are also expected to migrate to Markapuram area of Prakasam district where Gundlakamma irrigation project is nearing completion.
