Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party leaders have made arrangements to take farmers from Thulluru mandal once again for an interaction with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on land-pooling for capital city.
The meeting is scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on December 4 after Naidu returns from Visakhapatnam in the evening. Farmers initially opposed the government’s proposal to take their lands for the capital.
They held a series of protests in the area against the proposal on the ground that fertile land cannot be converted into a concrete jungle. However, some TDP leaders, particularly local legislator T Sravankumar, held a series of meetings with farmers seeking their support. The TDP leaders held several meetings with party sympathisers in Thulluru mandal and persuaded them to support Naidu’s initiative.
Thus, they have driven wedge between TDP sympathisers and farmers who don’t want to part with land. Meanwhile, the leaders helped some farmers of some villages in the mandal to sell their lands here and buy large extent of land in Palnadu, particularly in the Nagarjunasagar zone. In a bid to win over more farmers, the leaders have embarked upon the mission to take them to Hyderabad for second round of talks with Naidu.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee on capital in Vijayawada on Wednesday did not materialise. Naidu was scheduled to make a night halt here while returning to Hyderabad from Rajhamundry. But it was cancelled at the last minute.
