US consulate team, officials discuss ‘Smart City’ issues

A four-member team from the American Consulate met the higher officials of the city administration at the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) office here on Friday to discuss the modalities for extending aid from the US government in developing Visakhapatnam into a smart city.

Visakhapatnam: A four-member team from the American Consulate met the higher officials of the city administration at the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) office here on Friday to discuss the modalities for extending aid from the US government in developing Visakhapatnam into a smart city.

They mainly discussed availability of resources, local needs, necessity of further infrastructure to see Vizag as a global city, funding aspects from the State and the Central governments, studies, surveys and other issues pertaining to cooperation from the US government in developing the port city into a smart city. The team was apprised of the developmental activities in the city through a PowerPoint presentation.

The team consisted of Commercial Counsellor, American Consulate, New Delhi, Dillon Banerjee, Senior Advisor for Information and Partnership, US Agency for International Development (USAID), New Delhi, Nehal Sanghvi, Political and Economic Associate John Mataya and Senior Commercial Specialist from the American Consulate, Hyderabad, Satya Prabha. At the meeting, it was resolved to evolve an action plan of Vizag being a smart city, duly following the means and methods prescribed by the Government of India, with priority and keen study on funding aspects.

The team interacted with Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation managing director Y Madhusudhan Reddy, VPT chairman MT Krishna Babu, Collector N Yuvaraj, GVMC in-charge Commissioner and Joint Collector Praveen Kumar and in-charge vice-chairman of VUDA and chairman and managing director of APEPDCL MV Seshagiri Babu.­
