Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked officials of Energy department to work for bringing down transmission and distribution (T&D) losses. The direction had come to the officials during a review meeting held here on Tuesday. He said at present the T&D losses in the State were pegged at 12 per cent and directed the officials to bring the same to six per cent in next three years time.

Citing how the T&D losses have been contained in different countries, he said the T&D losses in China stood at 5.72 per cent, in USA and Canada the losses were 6 per cent and 5.45 per cent, respectively. It was in Japan the T&D losses were reduced to as low as 4.62 per cent, he added. Likewise, he wanted the officials to compete in containing T&D losses a par with China, US and Japan.

He further asked officials to set a fewer parameters in measuring T&D losses from generation centers of the AP Genco to the end user and directed them to focus on supply side and provide quality power to the consumers. Providing quality power would usher in investments as it would create more employment opportunities, he added.

Directing setting up of call centres and monitoring centres to track power consumption, distribution and T&D losses, the Chief Minister said the data collected at control room should be submitted in a report form to him. Naidu also said convention centers with uninterrupted and quality power supply be built in every mandal headquarter in the State.

Ministers Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Ayyanna Patrudu, Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao, principal secretaries Ajay Jain, Satish Chandra and Secretary to C M Sai Prasad were also present.
