Peddapuram (East Godavari): Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa on Tuesday called for a report from the coordinator of the District Vaidya Vidhana Parishad into the allegation that doctors were not available at the area hospital for providing medical attention to the injured in the accident that took place at K Kotapadu village in Rangampeta mandal on Monday.

The Deputy Chief Minister visited the government area hospital in Peddapuram on Tuesday to console the victims.

The relatives of the deceased told him that they brought the critically injured persons to the hospital but doctors were not available to provide treatment. Responding to this, Chinarajappa asked for an explanation from the doctors and also rang up the district Vaidya Vidhana Parishad coordinator to conduct an enquiry and send him the report immediately.

The patients in the hospital told the Deputy Chief Minister that there was shortage of doctors in the hospital and even drivers were not available for the 108 ambulance vehicles.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured them that medical treatment would be provided for the seriously injured and compensation would be paid under the Aapadbandhu scheme to the families of those who died in the mishap.

He said that departmental action would be taken against the doctors and nurses who were absent from duties. Later, Chinarajappa visited the mortuary and consoled the families of the deceased.

The coordinator of Vaidya Vidhana Parishad began his enquiry into the allegations against the doctors.
