Srikakulam: Government Whip Kuna Ravi Kumar here on Wednesday said that the Government’s ambition was to encourage women as industrialists. He was speaking at an awareness programme organised for women self-help groups (SHGs) on ‘Empowerment and Financial self-reliance’ at Bapuji Kala Mandir.

Mr. Ravi Kumar urged women to develop financially and become entrepreneurs. Government was taking measures in this direction, as a result of it the sand reaches were handed over to women’s groups, he added. He said that Srikakulam district has earned Rs 6 crore through sand reaches in one month as against Rs 10 crores in the past 10 years.

Mr. Ravi Kumar also said that corruption was being curbed as sand reaches were assigned to women. “In the next three to four months every group will get Rs one lakh as income, out of which about 25 percent will be saved and spent on women’s empowerment”, he said.

He asked the women to take active participation in ‘Swachh Andhra Pradesh’ programme. He assured that DWCRA loans would be waived soon. He called upon people to construct individual toilets in each family.

MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said that women were forward in every sector and he was proud of it. He reminded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu started DWCRA groups for the welfare of women.

MLA Gunda Lakshmi Devi said that she would make efforts to resolve women’s problems. Sand reaches were allotted to women to make them financially stable.

On this occasion, the Whip, MP and MLA distributed cheques to women groups.

MEPMA Project Director Munukoti Satyanarayana, DRDA Project Director S Tanuja Rani, Women’s Group members and others were present.
