Nellore: Former union minister and BJP leader D Purandeswari said the objective of BJP was to guide the nation in the path of progress.

She participated in the membership drive at Padmavathi Kalyana Mandapam here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the BJP leader clarified that the party had no role to play in religious conversions in the country. She flayed the opposition parties for creating unnecessary fuss in Parliament over religious conversions.

Purandeswari pointed out that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu had appealed in Parliament to all secular parties to extend their support for the legislation proposed to be enacted for prevention of religious conversions.

She regretted that no party came forward to extend support to the proposed legislation.

The BJP leader said no one could stop the Modi wave in the country. She said the BJP was marching forward with development and achievement as its main agenda. Purandeswari called upon the BJP workers to strive for strengthening the party in Andhra Pradesh by 2019.

Purandeswari garlanded the statues of Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Savitribai. She hailed the services rendered by Savitribai as the first woman teacher and as a social worker. She said the Centre would be urged to confer Bharat Ratna on Savitirbai. Later, the BJP leaders explained to the party activists the programmes that should be taken up for strengthening the party. They asked the workers to realise the target in enrolling new members into BJP.
