Cockfights ban removed, betting in crores

The Andhra Pradesh High Court banned cockfights last year. However, that did not stop villagers from organising the controversial cockfight.

It's a known fact that sharo blades are attached to the rooster's feet to ensure maximum harm to the opponent. This leads to the death of several roosters which has angered the PETA activists who have called for a ban on cockfights.

cockfights are more popular in villagers across East and West Godavari and Krishna districts. Interestingly even politicians place huge bets on their favourite rooster. The betting money runs into crores. Several attempts of the police to curb the menace have failed.

Now, the Apex Bank has given its nod to hold cockfights which are held during Sankranti in Andhra Pradesh.
