The birth centenary of prominent writer Chaganti Somayajulu (Chaso) was celebrated here on a grand scale under the banner of Chaso Spoorthi Sahitya Trust headed by Chaganti Tulasi, his daughter. Chaso’s other daughter Krishna Kumari was present.

Vizianagaram: The birth centenary of prominent writer Chaganti Somayajulu (Chaso) was celebrated here on a grand scale under the banner of Chaso Spoorthi Sahitya Trust headed by Chaganti Tulasi, his daughter. Chaso’s other daughter Krishna Kumari was present.

Well-known writer of West Bengal Ramkumar Mukopadhyaya, prominent poet- journalist Chinthakindi Srinivasa Rao, Ramasuri and Prof Savana Sarma were among those who lit the traditional lamp to mark the inauguration of the celebrations. Chaso’s books ‘anuvada sahitya, chaso kadalu’ and ‘katha sravanthi’ were released to mark the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, which included poets and writers from Bengal, odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, Mukopadhyaya described Chaso as a great writer known for his simple story-telling depicting reality. Tulasi presented the ‘Chaso Sahitya Spoorthi Puraskar’ to Srinivasa Rao. The award comprised a memento and Rs.10,000.
