Kakinada: The State government is mulling to develop Sri Kodandaramaswamy temple at Gollala Mamidada, on the lines of Sri Ramachandraswamy temple at Bhadrachalam and make it a second Bhadradri. Sri Rama Navami is celebrated with great fanfare every year at this temple which was constructed on the banks of River Tulya in 1889 by the donations given by Dwarampudi Subbi Reddy and Ramireddy.

It is now being run by a Board of Trustees. Many devotees visit this temple from 8 am to 7 pm every day. Mamidada is situated at a distance of 17 km from Kakinada and has good transport facilities by road with large number of buses and autos plying between Kakinada and Mamidada. It is also connected to Rajahmundry and Samarlakota from Bikkavolu. The Samarlakota Railway station is situated at a distance of 17 km from Mamidada and the Kakinada Railway Station is 25 km away.

Presently, it is the only important temple of Lord Rama in Andhra Pradesh with Bhadrachalam going to Telangana. The temple is situated between lush green surroundings and has splendid architecture. Special pooja is also conducted for Lord Hanuman. There is also a temple dedicated to the Sun God nearby.

The temple has huge Goparums. While the East Goparum is 170 feet high, the West Gopuram is 200 feet. People can get a glimpse of 20 towns from the top of the Gopuram. With the state’s bifurcation, the people and officials want to develop this temple of Lord Rama and also turn Gollala Mamidada into an important tourist destination. The Endowments Department is considering taking over the Rama temple and constructing cottages so that it could become another important pilgrimage centre like Bhadrachalam.
