Hyderabad: Notwithstanding the financial crunch which the state is facing, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced 43 per cent fitment for the government employees. Announcing this here late on Monday, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said it would benefit about 4.5 lakh employees and nearly 3.5 lakh pensioners.

The new scales would come into effect from June 2, 2014. Naidu said the other modalities of how the cash benefit of the hike in salaries would be implemented would be evolved by the sub-committee headed by Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu in consultation with the union representatives.

He said despite having financial constraints the government has taken this decision keeping in view the aspirations of its staff. The Chief Minister said the hike would burden the government to the extent of Rs 9,284.52 crore, and this is in addition to Rs 5,673.72 crore which had already been paid as Interim Relief of 27 per cent to the employees. He said, “We have innumerable challenges. I have spoken about this at the Chief Ministers’ meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Sunday.”
