Come budget session of Andhra Pradesh assembly, and a few few more MLAs of the opposition party YSRC are likely to roll over to the ruling TDP in view of continued stalemate over the future of party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in the CBI probed disproportionate assets case and the Quid Pro Quo charges.
His latest meeting with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has once again exposed the chinks in YSRC which hinges on future of the CBI cases against Jagan who has already spent over 16 months in Chanchalaguda Jail as an undertrial during the investigations. If the court accepts the CBI charges, then Jagan may spend another 4 to 5 years in jail for cheating, misuse of public office and finally violation of public trust.
Though for public consumption Jagan has asked the centre to speed up the assistance and special package to Andhra Pradesh, Jagan had a different agenda in Delhi, according to political analysts. He had appraised the Home minister on the alleged false and politically motivated cases against him hoisted by the CBI at the behest of the ruling clique of Sonia Gandhi then. He also explained how he was arrested and made to spend time in prison when most of the ministers under YSR who had minted billions went scot free and remained untouched.
Home Ministry officials said Jagan had submitted documents and newspaper clippings to show that he was innocent and he had not asked any one to invest in his companies. "I had not even entered the Secretariat at any moment during my father's life time and tenure," he said. He also explained the trauma his family had to go through after his father's death.
The YSRC chief also complained that the TDP government and Chandrababu Naidu were witch hunting him and his family. How the TDP government has hit the family business of Bharathi's mining and cancelled the mining leases in Kadapa district. "The ED has seized our properties, FDs and also bank accounts even as the trial was underway and no judgement has been delivered," Jagan is believed to have told the home minister.
The YSRC has shown inclination to work with the BJP in Telangana and also at the national level as the national party is already in league with the TDP in Andhra Pradesh. Jagan has offered support of about 6-7 MPs to the BJP in the parliament in crucial issues whenever needed. But no merger is protected at this moment.
