Abhayam app’s popularity spurts
The Andhra Pradesh Police mobile app ‘Abhayam - Safety 4 Sure’, has proved to be an instant hit. The mobile app launched in Visakhapatnam on January 25 has already recorded over 1,000 downloads. About 70 per cent of users have appreciated its utility in a dangerous situation.
In just 20 days, the app has recorded over 1,000 downloads
The Andhra Pradesh Police mobile app ‘Abhayam - Safety 4 Sure’, has proved to be an instant hit. The mobile app launched in Visakhapatnam on January 25 has already recorded over 1,000 downloads. About 70 per cent of users have appreciated its utility in a dangerous situation.
Interestingly, many young boys too have downloaded the app meant to ensure safety of women. Rated 4.9 out of 5, the app is available free of cost in Google’s Play Store. It can also be downloaded from the AP Police website. Its features include alerts like panic, missed call service, i-report, safe places and travel tracker. Panic is a unique feature of the app that allows the user to alert her benefactors and contact police when in danger.
The user can record his or her voice message and send it instantly using the app. I-Report feature enables the user to record a situation either in voice, video or text format. The app has received more than 60 per cent of positive reviews by men and women.According to police, the app is intended to benefit college girls, working women and housewives. It enables the vulnerable to better safeguard themselves when in danger.
“We are making the best use of technology to curb the crime rate in the State. The app is very helpful to police to prevent the crime against women. We are keen on unveiling more apps in future to ensure safety of both men and women by focusing on preempting the evil designs of anti-social elements,” said a police official.
