JP’s deeds do not match his words: Katari
Hyderabad: Lok Satta Party formed with the concept of a political party with a back-to-basics, pro-citizen ideology and social justice seems to have got trapped in the legacy of the system. The internal differences within the party have come into open and have reached a stage where even the chairman of the party Jayprakash Narayan seems to be finding it tough to handle.
The trouble started with newly inducted national president of Lok Satta Surendra Srivastava expelled AP Lok Satta president Katari Srinivasa Rao and state working committee member DVVN Varma. Katari is a prominent leader in the party and till recently was considered to be the successor of JP as national president.
The differences in the party came to fore soon after JP announced the name of Srivastava as national president. AP state unit was opposed to this move. Rao and Verma said when JP expressed his desire to demit office as national president, he had requested the party to initiate a process to elect a new president saying that the party should set an example in leadership transition. JPs actions, they said, did not match with his words.
Speaking to The Hans India, Katari said the decision of Srivastava to expel them was illegal and invalid as the current national council was formed on an ad hoc basis. It must be dissolved immediately and a new council must be constituted at the earliest with representation from all state units, he said.
Rao said as the founder state unit, and the largest constituent member of the party, the AP state unit has a moral responsibility to ensure that the basic structure and ideals of the party are protected, and nothing should be done for short-term political expediency. The state committee which met here on Wednesday decided that they would wait for JPs intervention to resolve the issue and if JP fails to do so then they would declare the AP state unit as the real national Lok Satta Party.
According to Varma Srivastava’s act amounts to character assassination. He said that nominating Srivastava was against all rules. Srivastava was using Lok Satta as a rehabilitation unit for those who lost elections, he alleged. When asked about the reaction of JP to this development, Varma said he had asked them to talk to Srivastava and sort out the issue but they were not inclined to do so. It is for JP to resolve the matter, he added.
