Hyderabad: The AICC and APCC want to bounce back politically, using the issue of according special status to Andhra Pradesh. The Congress party is gearing up to put pressure on the Centre to see that it fulfils all the assurances the UPA government had given on the floor of Rajya Sabha when the AP State Reorganisation Bill was passed on February 20, 2014.

As part of this action plan, the AICC president Sonia Gandh shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that even after eight months of bifurcation of erstwhile AP state, many of the investments and other commitments made by the then Central government have not been fulfilled.

Special category status announced to the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh by the then prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the floor of Rajya Sabha on February 20, the day the Telangana bill was adopted in Parliament, was yet to see the light of day. She demanded that special status be granted to AP immediately and all other promises be implemented in a time bound manner .

Sonia said the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh was facing severe financial crisis after bifurcation and demanded that adequate resources be provided in the Union budget for 2015-16 so that the state can tide over revenue shortages and be able develop its new capital city.

The AICC president wanted that adequate budget provisions be made to various ministries of the Union government to enable implementation of the development package committed in the reorganisation act. In addition, allocations should also be made to fulfil commitments relating to railways in AP in the railway budget.
