State govt invites industries to set up agricultural units

Visakhapatnam: Minister for Agriculture P Pulla Rao on Tuesday said AP was an ideal place for investment in the agriculture sector. He appealed to the industry to explore possibilities of setting up agri industries. He was addressing at the conference on Agriculture investment opportunities organised in association with Small Farm Agriculture Business Construction (SFCA) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) here.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said “We have sea coast, waterways and many more resources in Andhra Pradesh which can be utilised very well.’’ He said the opportunities were plenty in setting up of farm equipment manufacturing units, farm mechanisation units, soil testing facilities, pest control, cost control and increase in production.

“The State government would give maximum support and subsidies to encourage the entrepreneurs for the development of agriculture sector,” he added. He also said through Public Private Participation (PPP) advance technologies in agriculture had been built up in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh stood first in sectors like fisheries, poultry and cattle.

Nearly 23 lakh tones of fish were being exported to other countries. He also said that farmers should be educated and should be aware of the agriculture sector. ”Food processing units, seed companies, fertilisers, pesticides should be improved by having an association with the agriculture related companies and repeated conferences will be held”, he added.

Later Managing Director of Small Farm Agriculture Construction (SFAC) Pravesh Sharma said that they would develop industry in 5 lakh hectares in Andhra Pradesh in the initial phase. Minister for Labour K Atcheyem Nayudu, Panchayat Raj Minister Ch Ayyana Patrudu, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao, Zilla Parishath Chair Person Lalam, Bhavani, District Collector N Yuva Raj, MLA’s and officials were present in the conference.
